How to Shampoo Hair?

Shampooing is the most common hair treatment that every one gives to his hair. Washing your hair correctly can keep your scalp free of dandruff, lice and other scalp diseases and gives your hair a clean look. In today's world, it is an absolute necessity to wash hair very regularly. 

The increased pollution, dust particles in the air as well as the numerous beauty products that we use, form a thin surface coating on the hair making them dirty, hard to touch and tough to manage. 

Beside this keeping hair clean and dirt free also helps them to grow long and prevents any hair loss. Although it seems to be a simple tasks but most people do it in a wrong way. The scalp has to be treated very gently and a shampoo, preferably a mild one, should be used to remove grim and grease from the hair.

How to Wash Hair?

Grease and dirt build up in the hair everyday. Here are some steps that describes how to shampoo your hair correctly and how to remove oil and grim through proper shampoo cleaning;
  • Select the correct shampoos depending on your hair type. Herbal hair shampoo would be a better choice if you are not very sure.
  • Brush your hair before shampooing to get rid of the dust particles and dead skin cells from the scalp.
  • Massage the scalp with your finger to improve the circulation of the blood.
  • Now wet your hair with the luke warm water or cool water.(hot water tends to dry out the hair and scalp). However, if your hair are too dirt or have oil or any other hair pack on them, use luke warm water, because it completely washes away all the oil and dirt.
  • Take a small amount of shampoo on your palm, add water in it and rub hands together to evenly distribute the shampoo. Rub first onto your scalp and then spread over your hair.
  • The amount of the shampoo you use to later into your hair is directly related to the length of your hair. Obviously, those who have longer hair should use more than those with short hair.
    • For short hair; about half a teaspoon is enough,
    • For medium hair; about one teaspoon
    • For long hair; More than a teaspoon depending upon the length.
  • By using the tips of your fingers, work up leather and concentrate on hairline. Avoid rubbing with your fingernails as this could damage the scalp.
  • With circular movements, gently rotate the scalp. Do not rotate the hair. Work your way towards the tips of the hair.
  • Now rinse the shampoo thoroughly and do not leave any traces of shampoo in your hair.
  • Repeat if necessary.

Tips on shampooing

  • Choose a shampoo that is right for your hair type: normal, dry or oily.
  • Before washing hair, be sure your hair is free of tangles.
  • Don't pile your hair on the head as this would lead to tangles.
  • Don't pour shampoo onto your head directly. Take it in your hands, rub it and then apply.
  • If your shampoo is not lathering, it might be possible that your hair is not wet enough. Use more water instead of more shampoo.
  • Rinse well, soap will leave your hair dry and dull.
  • Final rinse should be with the cold water. It makes your hair shine.
  • Never use a brush to untangle wet hair. Hair is weak when it is wet. It breaks easily. Instead, use a wide toothed comb.
